Scarce first edition of An American Gentlemen’s Guide to Politeness and Fashion, 1857. A guide to gentlemanly style and manners by Mary Cockburn Conkling, under the guise of instructive letters from an eccentric American gentleman, “Henry Lunettes,” an eccentric American dandy, to his beloved nephews, teaching them the ways an elegant gentleman should act and dress in polite society. Fun little book with lots of insights into the very particular details in men’s dress important to a connoisseur of the day.
